Collierville, Tenn. (November 5, 2012) – Alec Anderson, a senior at Harding Academy, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Anderson was one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. He and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Anderson is a dedicated student who currently ranks at the top of his class, holds a 4.11 weighted grade point average and is a National Merit Semifinalist. He scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT and 35 on the ACT and also received a top score of ‘5’ on the AP U.S. History and AP English exams.
During his junior year, Anderson was the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Science Award and won first place in the University of Memphis Engineering competition. He placed fifth in the American Chemical Society competition.
In addition, Anderson is a talented trombonist. He has been selected for the All West and All State Bands as well as the All West and All State Orchestras. He is a three year member of the varsity baseball team and a member of the National Honor Society. He served as a class officer in the Student Government Association.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
